Porsche’s electric Macan Turbo is an automotive existential crisis

Maybe it was the grey color, the slightly bulbous roofline, or the vaguely SUV-like proportions of the electric Porsche Macan, but as I shuttled kids and groceries around city and suburban streets, I never once noticed a longing stare from other drivers. Unlike with other cars I’ve tested, no enthusiasts stopped to ask me questions. The 2026 Porsche Macan Turbo simply blended in, leaving in its wake a raft of existential questions. What is a sports car, anyway? Does it need to be overwhelmingly extroverted? Should it match the leaner, lighter look of its gas-powered sibling? Drive one and the questions cease. Maybe that’s because the acceleration makes it hard to breathe? Or maybe it’s because, by the numbers, the Macan is a sports car at heart despite its rather humdrum crossover body style.   My passengers would agree. The kids I drove to soccer practice, both my own and others, gave the punchy acceleration high marks. The G-forces it reports on the head-up display ($2,66...

Samsung reveals key Galaxy F70 5G specs and its launch date

Samsung launched the Galaxy F70e back in February and the Galaxy F70 Pro in August, and the vanilla Galaxy F70 showed up in Google's database last week. Today, Flipkart has put up a microsite for the Galaxy F70 5G, revealing that it will launch in India on October 18, with a starting price of INR 1X,XXX. That means it will cost somewhere below INR 20,000 ($225). Apple Intelligence is finally coming to China, but without Siri AI

Apple Intelligence was first announced in 2024 with iOS 18, but Apple struggled to make it available in two regions – the EU and China. Bloomberg reports that Cupertino will finally check the latter off the list with an upcoming update. iOS 27.3, which is expected in December, will enable Apple Intelligence for the Chinese market. While Apple uses Google’s Gemini in the West, it has struck a deal with Alibaba to use its Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang models. Qwen is a general AI model and will likely power most features. However, Siri AI will reportedly not be part of the iOS 27.3 release. Also, text generation will be restricted inside some apps. The problem isn’t technological but rather one of local regulations instead. Tongyi Wanxiang is an image and video generation model, so it will handle image editing tasks. However, local laws will prevent Apple from launching its Image Playground feature. Overall, Apple Intelligence in China will have fewer features than in the US, for example. Ho...

Here's when Apple will show off its touchscreen MacBooks and the OLED iPad mini

Last week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is planning a second October launch following its smart home event, and now he has more details on what it will look like. According to Gurman, Apple is inviting some media to an all-day product launch experience on October 28 in Los Angeles. This will be for the touchscreen MacBooks , the OLED iPad mini , and the M6-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Gurman previously said the launch would happen on October 27, so it may very well be that Apple announces the new products that day and lets the press get hands-on with them a day later, though that's just speculation on our part.

OpenAI sues Apple, claims an Apple employee stole proprietary info on an unreleased product

Back in July, Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that two of its former employees stole proprietary IP from Apple and handed it over to OpenAI. Now the tables have turned – OpenAI claims that an unidentified employee left Apple, worked at OpenAI for six months and then returned to Apple with stolen details on OpenAI’s hardware projects. In its lawsuit, OpenAI alleges that this IP theft is related to the newly announced Apple HomeView hub. As you may have heard, earlier this year rumors started up that OpenAI is building a smart speaker that was developed in partnership with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom . There may or may not be AI-powered earbuds too. The lawsuit alleges that the unnamed employee walked away with 100+ files related to OpenAI’s hardware project(s) and presented them to Apple executives. This allegedly happened months ago, though that wouldn’t be enough time to heavily influence the design of the HomeView. For its part, Apple claims that it has procedures that prev...

Amazon launches Bee Frontier AI wearable and Bee Eclipse phone attachment

Amazon today introduced two new Bee personal AI devices: the Bee Frontier wearable and the Bee Eclipse phone attachment. Both are meant to listen to your conversations and turn them into summaries, to-dos, reminders, and insights in the Bee app. You can wear the Frontier on a soft silicone wristband or clip it onto your clothes, and it comes in Lavender, Sage, and Onyx. It has dual microphones with noise filtering, IP67 water resistance, up to seven days of battery life, and USB-C charging. It's available now for $74.99. The Eclipse is about the size of a credit card, 4.6mm thick and 48.9g, and it snaps magnetically onto the back of your phone. Amazon rates its battery at more than 21 days, and it uses four MEMS mics plus a vibration microphone so it can pick up both sides of a phone call as well as in-person chats. The Eclipse starts at $99.99 in Silver, Midnight, Honey, and Blush, and it will go on sale soon. Both devices share the same software idea. When they're on, Bee b...

Apple HomeView hands-on: I am one of the first people to test the £299 home device - so, should you buy one for your family?

Apple delighted its fans today with the launch of HomeView – a brand-new smart home device. Described by Apple as a 'smart home management' system, the device recognises different family members' faces and brings up a personalised display for each person. HomeView can be used for entertainment, as a smart assistant and to control compatible smart devices around the home. Unveiled at an event in New York, the gadget won't go on sale until November 13. However, the Daily Mail's Science & Technology Editor, Shivali Best, was at the event and was among the first to get her hands on it. So, is HomeView worth £299/$299? If you've already bought into the Apple ecosystem, I think it's a no-brainer. But if your home runs on Ring, you might want to think twice, as HomeView won't fully integrate with your existing cameras and doorbell. Family-specific interfaces One of the features in the HomeView that impressed me the most was the family-specific interfaces.  ...
