Porsche’s electric Macan Turbo is an automotive existential crisis

Maybe it was the grey color, the slightly bulbous roofline, or the vaguely SUV-like proportions of the electric Porsche Macan, but as I shuttled kids and groceries around city and suburban streets, I never once noticed a longing stare from other drivers. Unlike with other cars I’ve tested, no enthusiasts stopped to ask me questions. The 2026 Porsche Macan Turbo simply blended in, leaving in its wake a raft of existential questions. What is a sports car, anyway? Does it need to be overwhelmingly extroverted? Should it match the leaner, lighter look of its gas-powered sibling? Drive one and the questions cease. Maybe that’s because the acceleration makes it hard to breathe? Or maybe it’s because, by the numbers, the Macan is a sports car at heart despite its rather humdrum crossover body style.   My passengers would agree. The kids I drove to soccer practice, both my own and others, gave the punchy acceleration high marks. The G-forces it reports on the head-up display ($2,66...

Deals: Galaxy Z Fold8 is on sale as the iPhone Duo launches, other foldables also discounted

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days soaked up almost all of the discounts last week, so there wasn’t much left over for the weekend. This week, however, we are seeing a return to form. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at €1,405. This is for a 12/256GB unit and, unfortunately, the 512GB upgrade is still quite expensive at €425 more. Still, a nearly €600 discount on the base model is nothing to sneeze at. But is the new wide foldable form factor better than the book-style format? Our Galaxy Z Fold8 vs. Z Fold8 Ultra article goes into the pros and cons of each design.

Speaking of, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is quite expensive. A couple of weeks ago, it was €1,715 for a 12/512GB unit. Now, even the base 12/256GB unit is €1,830. If you decide you want the Z Fold8 Ultra, we’d advise you to wait. In the meantime, you can check out our Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra vs. Galaxy S26 Ultra to help you pick which model is better suited for your needs.

You should also consider some alternatives. The Motorola Razr Fold was €1,330 two weeks ago, now it’s €120 more. That’s still cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, though. The Moto phone is thicker (10.1mm vs. 8.9mm) and heavier (243g vs. 215g), but it does have a larger battery (6,000mAh vs. 5,000mAh). It’s down on performance (Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs. the Elite Gen 5 chipset). However, the camera setup is competitive enough – 50MP 1/1.28” vs. 200MP 1/1.3” main, 50MP 3x/71mm vs. 10MP 3x/69mm telephoto and 50MP 122° vs. 50MP 120° ultra-wide. Both phones are slated for 7 OS updates (but note that the Galaxy launched with Android 17, while Motorola launched its foldable with Android 16).
There’s also the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold. However, the lack of big discounts makes it hard to recommend – as if the Tensor G6 alone wasn’t enough to disqualify it from the running.

In contrast to the Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 actually improved its price – the base 12/256GB model is €10 less than it was a couple of weeks ago and now a 12/512GB variant is available too with a similar discount.

The vivo X500 Ultra is expected to launch in China in early 2027. Whether it will be available globally and when is still being decided. So, for now we have the vivo X300 Ultra. It has a token discount of €100 (which isn’t much, given its €2,000 MSRP) and it comes with a free 100W FlashCharge adapter. It’s not much in terms of freebies, but this is one of the best camera phones of 2026 and it is equipped with a generous 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Check out our video review for a closer look at the phone.

We’re skipping over the Galaxy S26 series this week. The Galaxy S26 Ultra (12/256GB) is available for €1,150, but considering that this same model was €960 two weeks ago, we’d advise you to wait. The Pixel 11 series, meanwhile, has more or less retained its prices from that time – for better or for worse.

The Google Pixel 11 Pro XL is €1,280 for a 16/512GB unit, which is just €10 more than it cost two weeks ago. Either way, the €250 discount doesn’t look amazing compared to nearly €600 off on a cutting-edge foldable (the Z Fold8). The Pro XL is a larger version of the Pro, but it does have some advantages like faster charging and better speakers.

The Google Pixel 11 Pro is available in both 12/256GB and 16/512GB configurations (note the different RAM capacities). These prices are within €20 of where they were two weeks ago. However, even with bad discounts, a Galaxy S26 (12/512GB) is €870. This model was €820 two weeks ago, so the price hike isn’t nearly as bad as for the S26 Ultra, but you can still do better. And the 12/256GB S26 configuration is out of stock.

Here's when Apple will show off its touchscreen MacBooks and the OLED iPad mini

Last week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is planning a second October launch following its smart home event, and now he has more details on what it will look like. According to Gurman, Apple is inviting some media to an all-day product launch experience on October 28 in Los Angeles. This will be for the touchscreen MacBooks , the OLED iPad mini , and the M6-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Gurman previously said the launch would happen on October 27, so it may very well be that Apple announces the new products that day and lets the press get hands-on with them a day later, though that's just speculation on our part.

Xreal 1 Pro+ launches with brighter display and same price as predecessor

Xreal’s latest pair of AR glasses brings some big improvements on the display front while keeping the same $599 starting price. The key upgrade on the brand-new Xreal 1 Pro+ is its 1200 nits peak brightness, which is up from 700 nits on its predecessor. The new model now supports 60fps 2D to 3D conversion, up from 30fps on the Xreal 1 Pro, and this should directly translate to livelier spatial content. You get the same-sized 0.55-inch Sony Micro-OLED panels on the inside with 1920x1200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Xreal is advertising a new AI HDR feature, which should translate to improved visual quality. You still get a 57-degree field of view with a 34–556-inch virtual-size range and native 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) support for spatial viewing. The internals are headlined by the X1 spatial computing chip with 3ms M2P latency. The glasses come with an updated nose pad design with a broader contact area, which is said to be more stable and comfortable for long-term use. ...

Samsung reveals key Galaxy F70 5G specs and its launch date

Samsung launched the Galaxy F70e back in February and the Galaxy F70 Pro in August, and the vanilla Galaxy F70 showed up in Google's database last week.
